What is IG (immunoglobulin) therapy?

IG refers to immunoglobulin, a substance used to treat immune system problems. Treatment with IG is known as “IG therapy.” IG is a substance that contains many types of antibodies — special proteins in the body that help fight infection. Increasing the level of IG in your blood helps protect you from harmful infections for short periods of time.

IG is obtained from a part of human blood called “plasma.” During production, the plasma is tested to make sure it is free from agents that cause infection.
